Hundreds of Palestinian refugees from Syria held a protest against their poor living conditions in front of a United Nations agency offices in South Lebanon’s Saida on Wednesday. The protest was called for by the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas in order to present the Palestinian refugees’ demands to the director of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), the National News Agency reported. Lebanon is facing difficulties dealing with the increasingly high number of Syria refugees on its soil, which prompted its cabinet to address the issue in a meeting last month. Moreover, the severe funding shortage over the Syrian humanitarian crisis is a major concern for the United Nations, with UNICEF facing a 57 percent funding gap in its Lebanon program for Syrian children, with other humanitarian agencies facing similar budgetary shortfalls.
