Security forces thwart Roumieh prison break

The Lebanese security forces foiled an escape attempt in the central prison in Roumieh, the National News Agency reported on Monday. A number of inmates have set up four ropes extending from the control tower to the external gates, the report said. According to the NNA, the inmates also managed to cut the iron gate that separated the control tower from the prison’s building. The report also said that had the attempt succeeded, it would have been the biggest prison break ever witnessed in Lebanon. The security forces opened an investigation into the escape attempt with a number of suspects.
