Son of Businessman, 12, Abducted in Ramlet al-Baida

The 12-year-old son of a businessman from the Awada family was kidnapped on Wednesday near his residence in Ramlet al-Baida in Beirut, the state-run National News Agency reported. The news agency said that four unknown assailants in a tinted windows Nissan Sunny abducted Mohammed Nidal Awada at 7:00 a.m. from Bella Rosa building near Spinneys. Security forces arrived swiftly at the scene and opened an investigation into the incident. MTV channel reported that the captors opened fire in the air before abducting Mohammed. The NNA said the assailants were witnessed heading towards the South. The channel said that the father of the kid owns two large sewing factories. The kidnap-for-ransom phenomenon has recently increased and has strongly been criticized by officials from across the political spectrum.
