BEIRUT: The family of Lebanese journalist Samir Kassab, who was reported missing in Syria last week, appealed to officials to help secure his release, according to a statement Tuesday. “We appeal to all those who can provide assistance, from colleagues in the profession to civil society organizations and associations defending the rights of journalists, and Islamic, Arab and regional powers, to work on securing Samir’s and his co-workers’ safe return to their families who desperately need them,” the statement said. Kassab, a cameraman working for Abu Dhabi-based Sky News Arabia, was reported missing along with Mauritanian Ishak Moctar and their unnamed Syrian driver. The family also appealed to Kassab’s captors, asking them to release him, stressing that he and his colleagues did not belong to any party in the conflict.
