Civil movement activists held a protest on Saturday in solidarity with their detained comrades, Waref Sleiman and Pierre Hashash. Civil Movement activists gathered at Riad Solh Square in downtown Beirut in solidarity with the detainees, Waref Sleiman and Pierre Hashash. In the evening, they headed to the vicinity of the Military Court's headquarters in "Mathaf" area.
Carrying banners and slogans that called for "overthrowing the regime," demonstrators demanded the Interior Minister's resignation and the return of soldiers from the outskirts of Arsal.
Protesters criticized Minister Nuhad Mashnouq, denouncing his "police measures and practices" against their civil movement, and voicing their rejection of "trying civilians before the Military Court."
"You Stink" Campaign Activist, Imad Bazzi, pointed out that "today's move only aims to shake the wires placed by the security forces, in a peaceful manner, on grounds that Sleiman and Hashash are still being held by the judiciary on said charges." They moved towards "al-Helou" Army Barracks in Mar Elias district, where activist Pierre Hashash is being detained. An incident occurred when a vehicle driver tried to run over a female activist, resulting in a clash between him and other activists, which quickly ended upon the immediate intervention of security forces. Then the protestors headed to "Ramlet el-Baida" police station, where activist Waref Sleiman is being held. They asked to see their detained colleague, even through the window, but their request was turned down by security.
