Child labor on the rise due to economic situation

Despite a number of international treaties forbidding child labor, more kids were entering workplaces across Lebanon due to the economic situation of many Lebanese and Syrian families, head of south Lebanon’s chamber of commerce said Thursday. Activists reject child marriage draft law

Activists Monday decried a proposed draft law on child marriage that proposes judges approve requests for marrying off underage children, saying it does not do enough to guarantee their safety. A draft law to establish the legal age of marriage in Lebanon at 18 will be presented to Cabinet next week, following a workshop on the prevention of child marriage held Thursday at Parliament.
