Judge wants death penalty for 6 over Yves Nawfal killing

The judge responsible for the case of Yves Nawfal’s murder issued Wednesday an indictment recommending the death penalty for six people suspected of involvement in the crime, judicial sources said. Judge Peter Germanos issued an indictment against the three detained suspects Charbel G. Khalil, Charbel C. Khalil, Juliano Saadeh, and three fugitive members of the Khalil family named Christian, Elie and Mario. The source said that 23 people have been indicted in the case, including 13 who are already in custody and 10 that are yet to be apprehended. 5 Lebanon brothers sentenced to death over 2007 killings

Lebanon’s judiciary sentenced five brothers from the Shamas family to death in abstentia Friday over the 2007 murders of Ziad Qabalan and child Ziad Ghandour. Another three people in custody were sentenced to jail terms ranging from two to 10 years over involvement in the killings. The Judicial Council handed down the sentences to five siblings from the Shamas family called Mohammad, Shehadeh, Abdallah, Abbas and Ali, who were charged with kidnapping and murdering the two victims. Death sentence against Islamist detainees reduced to life imprisonment

Death penalty requested for failed bombers

A judge requested the death penalty Friday for two alleged would-be suicide bombers, a Frenchman and a Saudi, and for three Lebanese suspects accused of being part an ISIS-affiliated group behind suicide-bomb plots in Beirut.
