Court approves Samaha case indictments

  The Court of Cassation approved Thursday an indictment which calls for the death penalty against former Minister Michel Samaha, Syrian Maj. Gen. Ali Mamlouk and Col. Adnan. Military Investigative Judge Riad Abu Ghayda issued the indictment last month, requesting the death penalty for the three men. Lebanese boy released for huge ransom

  A Lebanese boy was released for a ransom after he had been abducted last week in Beirut’s Ramlet al-Bayda area. According to the National News Agency, Mohammad Nibal Awada was released at 4 a.m. near the Fiat bridge in East Beirut.   A Lebanese judge recused himself from looking into the case of the former Information Minister Michel Samaha. Penal Court of Cassation Judge Joseph Samaha announced his decision on Monday, according to the National News Agency. Cassation Court endorses appeal to execute Samaha, Mamlouk

  The Lebanese Criminal Court of Cassation presided over by Judge Walid al-Qadi on Thursday ratified the appeal of First Military Investigative Judge Riad Abu Ghaida to execute ex-minister Michel Samaha and Syrian security chief Ali Mamlouk.   Kidnappers holding a 12-year-old boy have threatened to kill their hostage if their demand for a $1 million ransom is not met, security sources told The Daily Star Thursday.
