Palestinian refugees displaced from Syria staged a sit-in Monday in front of the UNRWA offices at the Beddawi camp to protest delays on behalf of the organization in dealing with their concerns. Abu Loay Arkan, a member of the central committee of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine held UNRWA accountable for the suffering of the refugees since it was the official representative of the Palestinian refugees. He called on all refugees to go back to their camps in Yarmouk and all camps in Syria and denounced the ongoing shelling of the camp, adding that “these criminal acts will not deter refugees from returning to their homes.” He urged the rival parties in Syria to distance the refugees from the conflict. The protesters forwarded UNRWA a letter that called for “developing an urgent and comprehensive plan to help refugee families and to provide shelter or rent money because most of the displaced families can’t afford housing.” They also requested the provision of health care for refugees in Lebanon and for financial assistance to university students who are displaced.
